The Stars and Stripes of DC

Hello everyone! I'm back with another concept today.

Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals are one team that are in need of a redesign and here's what I have in store for them.

- Design loosely based off of original uniforms. Thick stripes, but remove the small space in between. Add stars on shoulders and arms.
- Updated font.
- Bold design returning red/white/blue stars and stripes.
- USE THE WEAGLE LOGO AS THE PRIMARY.

So, what do you think of this Capitals redesign? Let me know!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

2014 Stadium Series: Ducks and Kings

Happy Saturday everybody! New concept time!

2014 Stadium Series (Los Angeles)

Here is my newest concept, one for the two California teams playing under the stadium lights this next January. With the Ducks, I went with the rumors and created a predominately orange jersey with some variation of their 'Mighty Duck' oval logo. I also decided to base their jersey off of the infamous 'Wild Wing' alternate. Despite the front design and font, it's actually a great jersey, and I think it could be a great look! For the Kings, I decided to tie a few era together. I stuck with their current color scheme, and that of the Gretzky era, and used a jersey design similar to that of the original Kings. However, the main thing I wanted to do was use a logo they hadn't before. Not like this anyways. I used the crown out of one of their old shield logos because, I think it is very well executed and honestly looks better than their other crown logos. I also wanted to do something else the Kings hadn't. They've used every color in their arsenal as a base color except for silver/grey. Now it may be a hard color to do so, but with the King's scheme and identity, I think they could make it look great. After all, this is Los Angeles, why couldn't there be an orange vs silver game?

So what do you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

More Green for the Stars

Hello everybody! How was everyone's weekend? I had the pleasure of attending the Colorado/Montreal game on Saturday to see my Avs improve with a 4-1 win over the Habs. It was great to see my all time favorite player/goalie JS Giguere in net and former great Patrick Roy behind the bench. But the highlight of the night was seeing former Av, Adam Foote's number retired. Any one else attending NHL games soon? In the meantime, I have another concept today for you.

Dallas Stars

The recent Dallas Stars uniform overhaul was a thing of beauty in my opinion, so any third jersey they introduce should be as well. Here's my concept and I had a few goals with this:

1) Keep green the dominant color, while also introducing a little more black and silver.
2) Turn one of the ugliest jerseys in history (mooterus) into a great one.
3) Incorporate the Stars theme a little more.

So what does everyone think of this concept? Love it, hate it? Let me know!

New Culture in Colorado - Time for new uniforms

Hello readers everywhere! WOW. It sure feels good to be writing here again and feels fantastic to actually complete another concept. Over the past months there have been so many concept ideas and incompleted designs but work, school, and everything else just got in the way. But I am back, and even though it's been a while, I never left! In fact, I continue to check HJC, Icethetics, CCSL and your blogs every few days. So thank you for coming to check in and here's my next concept!

Colorado Avalanche
Now you all probably know, the I'm a proud Colorad-an and I was born and raised here. So naturally you can assume I'm more than excited about the Avs current performance on the ice. There's a new culture with the Colorado Avalanche, and it's time for a new era. Our young group of guys is finally coming together, we have an exciting coach behind the bench, as well as some front office additions. It's all coming together. Next all we need, is a new look. The Avalanche probably have the worst uniforms in the league, which is such a shame considering we have such great logos and colors and used to have some of the best uniforms. So here are my main goals with the redesign.

- Get rid of the Reebok cookie cutter look.
- Bring back the mountain design in a new way.
- Eliminate black equipment, and use the color minimally.
- Create a unique identity for the Avalanche
- Tie in Colorado somehow. (captains patch, hanger effect, and mountains.)

So what do you think of this possible look for the Avalanche?

Thanks for checking in and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Colorado Pride

Colorado Avalanche

Happy Friday everyone! As most of you may know I'm a huge Avalanche fan and was born and raised here in beautiful Colorado. We here in Colorado have a lot of pride in our state! It's almost impossible to walk down a busy street without finding someone with apparel on that has our red and yellow Colorado 'C.' In fact, some of this apparel, translated onto Avs logos, is some of the top selling merchandise. I myself have two or three items. Even our pro soccer team debuted a new third jersey showing our state pride. Why not have the Avs do something similar? I wanted it to not only represent our great state but also past hockey here and within the franchise. The baby blue is obviously taken from the Quebec Nordiques and the jersey design is a very slight nod to these WHA jerseys. Then the Colorado 'C' emblems are obviously taken from the state flag as well as the jerseys of the old Colorado Rockies. I just kind of ran with the rest of the design and really like how it turned out. This wouldn't be a bad upgrade for their current alternates. What do you think?

Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Brand

Good evening everyone! How is everyone on this fine Tuesday night? I'm settled in for the night. The Penguins just won there 13th in a row and I'm watching the Rangers/Flyers rivalry continue. What games are you all watching?

Also, if you didn't notice I've updated the blog's look. I just wanted to update to a cleaner, more sleek and modern look.

Anyways, onto today's concept!

Columbus Blue Jackets

I wanted to give the Blue Jackets a full rebrand! Starting with the logo. A star with a backwards Ohio flag? Creative, yes, but it doesn't really relate to their identity (other than the fact they're from Ohio) and and it doesn't work that well as a primary logo. The primary logo I used for my rebrand uses the head of a soldier. A "Blue Jacket." It's fierce and relates to the identity. The original logo was designed by a concept artist on SportDrawn.com. I took a screenshot and printed the logo a while back but unfortunately the post got deleted from SportDrawn so I didn't get the name of the artist. Here's the original logo, though. The shoulder patches are two crossed cannons to further incorporate the military theme. The cannons are from the Boston Cannons lacrosse logo. For the jersey design I went with a more modern look while keeping it classic. I also went ahead and used the stripes from the Blue Jackets "stripes and sticks" concept logo. I thought it looked good as arm stripes and reflected a military patch that would be featured on a soldiers jacket. Then we go onto the alternate... I wanted to keep it much more simplistic. I removed red, kept classic simple striping, and the rest is pretty self explanatory. I apologize for the long description but I'll let the jerseys do the rest of the talking.

Let me know what you think in the comments and thank you for stopping by!

Chicago Blackhawks: A Red Retro

Hello again everybody, and welcome to the Art of Hockey! New concept time... again! Let's dive right into it!

Chicago Blackhawks

One of the most popular concepts is Blackhawks third jerseys. And most of the time they're retro inspired, black jerseys. This one is retro inspired, but I decided to ditch the black and go with a red jersey. I have always though that the vintage white and black looks phenomenal atop that Chicago red. That's just what I did here. My concept is largely inspired by two concepts. A retro concept by Avi S. and a Nike swift concept by Dylan W. Both artists placed a roundel logo atop two separate stripes rather than the large chest stripe or the plethor of stripes across the jersey. I then wanted to further incorporate the retro feeling by adding the tomahawk 'C' logo on the arm stripes like the Hawks jerseys from the late 50's. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments.

Thanks again for stopping by and have a great day!
